Personal life

Zinczenko grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania,[4] and attended Liberty High School there. While attending Moravian College, he served in the military for the Navy Reserves and was the editor-in-chief of his college newspaper, The Comenian.[5] His brother is Eric Zinczenko, the CEO of Bonnier Corp. In 2002[6] and 2007,[7] David was named one of People's 50 Most Eligible Bachelors.

Career

Print and Digital

After serving in the military as a non-commissioned officer, Zinczenko started his career in 1991 working as an assistant editor at Men's Journal, a men's magazine launched by Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner. In 2000, at the age of 30, Zinczenko was named editor-in-chief of Men's Health, which, under his tenure, expanded to 39 international editions in 46 countries. In 2008, he was named Ad Week's Editor of the Year.[8] Men's Health has been nominated for 12 National Magazine Awards, and has had two wins: "General Excellence" in 2010[9] and "Personal Service" in 2011.[10] It also won a Digital Ellie for Eat This, Not That![11]

On December 14, 2010, Min credited Zinczenko for the "#1 Most Notable Launch of the Past 25 Years". Under his watch Zinczenko oversaw the launches of both Women's Health[12] and the affluent men's lifestyle publication Best Life,[13] serving as Editorial Director of the two brands.

At Women's Health, he brought celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Elizabeth Banks, Ashley Greene, Brooklyn Decker, and Olivia Wilde to the cover. In 2009, Advertising Age deemed Women's Health the "Magazine of the Year."[14][15] In 2011, he was named Editorial Director of both Organic Gardening[16] and Prevention as well. He left Rodale at the end of 2012.[17]

He was hired in 2013 by American Media CEO David Pecker to re-launch Men's Fitness, and create brand extensions for the men’s lifestyle publication while also turning Shape[18] into an active lifestyle publication and helping to oversee Muscle & Fitness.[19][20] Zinczenko repositioned Men's Fitness as “more upscale,” remaking the brand as “the new measure of success" (its tagline) and adding more lifestyle content. Covers have featured celebrities like Novak Djokovic, Chris Pratt, Hugh Jackman, Vin Diesel, Henry Cavill, Adam Levine, Norman Reedus, Michael B. Jordan and Liam Hemsworth. “Marketers seem to be taking note,” reported AdWeek. “Men’s Fitness is starting to get the kinds of high-end advertising it’s never carried before, like Ralph Lauren’s Polo fragrance and Ocean Pacific.”[21] Zinczenko is now Editorial Director.[22]

Publishing and Writing

Zinczenko created the best-selling Eat This, Not That! series of books, with Matt Goulding, and The Abs Diet franchise. He is the author of 14 New York Times best-sellers, with more than 10 million books in print, including The 8-Hour Diet and Men, Love & Sex. His latest series, Zero Belly Diet, has two sequels, Zero Belly Cookbook and Zero Belly Smoothies. His next book, The Sugar Swap Diet,[23] is due December 2016. Besides working with American Media on the re-launch of Men’s Fitness, Galvanized has done client work for Hearst, Bonnier, Meredith and Ralph Lauren, among others.[27] Galvanized also owns and operates multi-platform franchises in the health, fitness and lifestyle space, including Eat This, Not That!, Best Life and Zero Belly. Its imprint Galvanized Books,[28] distributed by Random House, produced The 7-Day Flat-Belly Tea Cleanse by Kelly Choi.
