Dhar Mann (born May 29, 1984) is an American entrepreneur best known for his ownership of WeGrow, a chain of medical marijuana dispensary supply stores that claims to be "The Wal-Mart of weed".[1]
Business activities
Mann’s first business venture was a real estate mortgage brokerage company, which he started at age 19 while attending the University of California, Davis. The early success of the venture led him to drop out of college, though he returned to complete his degree. He graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in Political Science in 2007.
His parents own, and he helps to run, the largest taxicab company in Oakland.[1] In 2008 he opened MannEdge, a luxury transportation company, and in 2009 expanded the company to include exotic vehicles.
He founded WeGrow in 2010 and franchised it to multiple outlets in California, Arizona,[2] and Washington, D.C.[3] In 2011 he was featured on the cover of Mother Jones.[4] In early 2013 he sold all his interests in WeGrow and is no longer affiliated with the company.[5]
Conviction
In 2014 Mann was convicted of five felony counts of defrauding the City of Oakland by stealing redevelopment funds sourced from California taxpayers.[6] He was sentenced to five years' probation and restitution of $44,399 to the City of Oakland.[4] Oakland's civil suit against Mann is still pending resolution.[7]
Personal life
Mann was previously engaged to reality TV star and swimsuit designer, Lilly Ghalichi.[8] The couple officially ended their engagement in December, 2015. [9] Sh
