Downsway Primary School[1] is a non-selective state primary school in the parish of Tilehurst, Reading in England. The school smaller than the average-sized primary school[2] educating around 250 children between the ages of 4 and 11. It received a 'Satisfactory'[2] rating in its latest Ofsted report. When the school first opened in 1974 it had just the first year of 30 pupils under the headteacher of Mr Paul Wootten. Mr Wootten retired in 2002 when Mrs Susan Cantwell became the new and current headteacher.

Downsway is one of the feeder schools for Denefield the larger local secondary schools.[2]

Paul Wootten

During his time as headteacher Paul Wootten has written a number of children's books of which 3 have been published in Paperback since his retirement. The books are The Yendak,[3] Whispers on the Wasteland[4] and Rogues on the River.[5]
