Edward "Ed" Ruth (born October 21, 1990 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania)[1] is an American mixed martial artist and former freestyle wrestler. While competing for Pennsylvania State University, Ruth became a three-time NCAA collegiate wrestling champion (2012-2014). He is currently ranked number 2 at 189lbs in the United States.[2]
Early life
Ruth was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is a 2009 graduate of Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey.[3][4][5] He transferred there from Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in his senior year.[1]
College and freestyle wrestling
Competing for Pennsylvania State University, Ruth became a three-time NCAA collegiate wrestling champion from 2012 to 2014.[6] In 2013, Ruth was suspended from Penn State.[7][8] He rebounded by winning his third NCAA championship in 2014, when he completed his career at Penn State. He also competed at the 2014 World Wrestling Championships and the 2015 Wrestling World Cup.[9][10]

Mixed martial arts
In December 2014, Ruth trained with mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Jon Jones.[11] While living in State College, PA, Ruth trained at Central PA Mixed Martial Arts with head instructor Ryan Gruhn.[12][13] He signed with Bellator MMA in May 2015. Due to his focus on competing in the 2016 Summer Olympics, Ruth declared that it would "be a little while" before his MMA debut.[14]
Ruth made his professional MMA debut on the undercard of Bellator 163 against Dustin Collins-Miles.[15] He won the fight via TKO in the first round.
