Eddie Astanin (Russian: Эдди Владимирович Астанин, born December 16, 1961; Moscow) is a Russian economist and financial expert, the Chairman of the Executive Board of National Settlement Depository, Russia's central securities depository.[1] He is the first representative of Russia on the board of directors of SWIFT.[2] He holds the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences, and is an author or co-author of more than 40 financial publications.

Education

1984 – Mozhaisky Military Engineering Institute; majored in Ballistics.

1996 – Institute for Further Training and Qualification Upgrade in Finance and Banking at the Finance Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation; majored in Banking.

Mr. Astanin holds the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences (1992).

International training programs: London Business School, Institute of Directors (IoD Chartered Director), and HEC Paris.

Career

From 1984 to 1994, Eddie Astanin worked at a Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense, where he was involved in various high-technology research projects. This helped him gain necessary experience and knowledge that he later applied in the field of finance.

From 1994 to 2004, he was an employee at the MICEX Group, where he worked his way from lead economist to Director of the Public Securities and Money Market Instruments Department. His responsibilities included development of stock-exchange trade, clearing business, and public and corporate securities market. One of the key projects implemented at that time was the launch of Bank of Russia’s repo transactions to provide refinancing to the domestic banking system.

From 2005 to 2009, he was Deputy Director General of National Depository Center.

From 2009 to 2010, he was Director General of National Depository Center (renamed, following the merger with MICEX Settlement House, into National Settlement Depository).

Since 2010, Mr. Astanin is the Chairman of the Executive Board of National Settlement Depository (NSD) that was subsequently assigned the status of Russia’s central securities depository.

Since 2012, he is the member of the Board of Directors of Saint-Petersburg Currency Exchange (SPCEX), and the member of the Board of Directors of Petersburg Settlement Center.

Since 2014, he is the member of the Board of Directors of the National Securities Market Association (NSMA).

Since 2015, he is the member of the Board of Directors of SWIFT.
