Ederam (bishop of Poznań)

Ederam, Bishop of Poznan was a German Bishop from the monastery in Weltenbergu and the Abbey of St. Emmerama in Regensburg, Who was Bishop of Poznan from 1030AD to 1049AD.

Career

In an obituary in the Weltenbergu monastery he is styled as episcopi vagantes de Polonia, that is a Bishop of the Polish diocese, most likely in Poznań. It records he died on 29 November of an unknown year. Research on another obituary from Regensburg has shown that he died before the year 1049AD.^[1] Kętrzyński^[2] and Abraham^[3] date his time in Poznan as the end of the 11th or beginning of the 12th century, and according to Tadeusz Wojciechowski,^[4] he travelled to Poland with Judith the second wife of Władysław Herman. This claim is based on close relationships Judith had with the monastery in Weltenbergu.

His time in the Diocese of Poznań was during a period of pagan reaction (c. 1031AD) and the invasion Of Bretislaus in 1038AD. It was due to these two events that Diocese of Poznan ceased to exist de facto.^[5][6][7]
