Elisabet Barnes (born April 13 1977, née Frankenberg) is a Swedish athlete specialized in ultrarunning.[1] Her major claim to fame is winning the Marathon des Sables in 2015, winning each stage of the race.[2][3] The Marathon des Sables has been listed by Outside Magazine as one of the 9 toughest ultramarathons in the world.[4] In 2015 she participated in six races, winning all and setting new course records in four. Barnes lives in the UK since 2007.[5]
Barnes grew up in Sweden but moved to England in 2007 where she started to run ultra trails in 2011.[6] She has a professional background in management consulting.[7] With her husband Colin who is also a marathon and ultramarathon runner Barnes runs a shop that specializes in running equipment.[8]
