Ellen Isabel Jones

Ellen Isabel Jones (born Ellen Isabel Cotton (date unknown), died circa 1948) was an English Suffragette and close associate of the Pankhursts.

She was imprisoned in Holloway Prison, having been arrested in Downing Street for throwing stones at the windows. She did five days of "hunger and thirst" but was not force-fed. Details of these events are held in an archive of her papers at The Women's Library in London.[1]

Her husband was Dr Ernest Williams Jones of Aldridge, Staffordshire, the first General Practitioner to receive the M.D. degree.[2] They had four boys. Dr Jones was an early disciple of Freudian psychoanalysis and by coincidence friends with Freud's biographer, also called Ernest Jones.
