Because of his activities, for a period of time Dr. Daniel held an appointment as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at USC. He also participated as a lecturer for the Introduction to Medicine course offered by the University of California at Santa Barbara.

His noteworthy accomplishments include the book Stealth Germs in Your Body and years of activities in geriatric medicine and the diagnosis and management of Alzheimer's Disease. He is married to Martha Peaslee Daniel, R.N. formerly of Stillwater, Minnesota. They have four children, Kristina, Michael, Mary, and Monica.

Early life and education

Dr. Daniel was born in Budapest, Hungary. As a child, he immigrated to the United States from Hungary with his parents and sister. Dr. Daniel was educated in the Santa Barbara public schools.

In 1968, he received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology. He received a master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego, writing his thesis on Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. He completed his M.D. at the UCLA School of Medicine in 1975 and his residency training in Internal Medicine at the UCLA Hospitals in 1978.

Career

Early in his career, Dr. Daniel pursued an interest in the developing medical specialty of Geriatric Medicine and was among the first physicians in the United States to be certified in the specialty in 1988. About that time, he also received accreditation in vascular ultrasound which he still maintains. Within geriatrics, he developed a special interest in dementia and Alzheimer's Disease and participated in the clinical trials of Cognex, the first medicine ever to be approved for the treatment of AD. He later participated in the clinical trials of Exelon and the experimental agent milameline. As a result of his activities, he was invited to write to textbook chapters on Alzheimer's Disease. He recorded three educational CD's on the topic of AD and geriatric medicine and wrote a paper relating to the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. For various activities, Dr. Daniel was recognized by the Alzheimer's Association's Santa Barbara Chapter with their 2001 Leadership Award. A few days before the death of President Reagan, he also received a letter from Nancy Reagan in recognition of the chapter he wrote on Alzheimer's Disease for the 2004 edition of Conn's Current Therapy. At the time of President Reagan's death, he was interviewed on a radio station in Sacramento, CA. Beginning in 1993, Dr. Daniel has lectured widely in the United States on Alzheimer's Disease, dementia, and geriatric medicine topics.

In addition to his full-time practice, Dr. Daniel has worked with the Vascular Laboratory at the Sansum Clinic and the Wellness Program. His is on the medical and scientific advisory board of the Center for Cognitive Fitness and Innovative Therapies (CFIT) of Santa Barbara.

Over time, his interest evolved into the important and critical topic of how medical diagnoses are missed or made, especially how hidden infections cause various conditions which give no overt sign of infection. In the fall of 2008, Dr. Daniel published his first book, Stealth Germs in Your Body, which highlights the practical clinical application to the diagnosis and treatment of discoveries for which the 2005 and 2008 Nobel Peace Prizes in Medicine were awarded.

Author

Dr. Daniel is author of the book, Stealth Germs in Your Body, and textbook chapters in Conn's Current Therapy and Lippincott's Dermatology. HIs major review paper on the Cronkhite Canada Syndrome, written in 1983, has served as the basis of most gastroenterology textbook chapters on the subject. While in graduate school, Dr. Daniel published basic science papers in magnetic resonance and chemical engineering topics.
