Everglades University is a private non-profit university based in Florida.[7][8][9] Everglades offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs online and on-campus. Everglades University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award bachelor’s and master's degrees. Additionally, Everglades University is a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF). Furthermore, Everglades is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant students and is approved for veterans' training. The main campus is in Boca Raton, with additional branches located in other parts of Florida. In 2011, Everglades University purchased Keiser University.[10][11][12]

History

Everglades University was originally called the American Flyers College when it was founded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1990. In 1998, Arthur and Belinda Keiser - the owners of Keiser University - purchased American Flyers College (American Flyers, Inc.), then changed the name to Everglades College in 1999 after relocating to Fort Lauderdale.[13]

Everglades College, Inc. was created in 2000 and was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Florida.[14] Two years later, in 2002, the US Department of the Internal Revenue Service recognized Everglades College, Inc. as a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation and Everglades College, Inc. became independently operated by a Board of Trustees.[15]

The operator of Everglades University is Everglades College, Inc.[2]

In 2011, Everglades University purchased Keiser University, a Florida-based for-profit chain[16] which then became a nonprofit college.[12]

Licensure and accreditation

Everglades University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award certificates and degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels. Everglades University is a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida.[17]
