Expliseat is a French company based in Paris, known for their ultra-light aircraft seats, the Titanium seat.
History
Founded in 2011, the company became known for certifying the lightest aircraft seat, made of Titanium and carbon-fiber reinforced composites. The company was registered as a Design Organization by the EASA[1] in 2013. In March 2014, the Titanium seat was approved by EASA[2] and in July 2014 by the FAA,[3] becoming the first seat ever certified in composite, with just 4 kg (8.8 lbs), while usual seats weigh around 10–11 kg.[4] This seat passed the "16g" certification in July 2015.[2] The company has filed 15 international patents[5] to reach this performance.
This seat has been adopted by several airlines, Air Mediterranean,[6] FlyCAA[7] or Air Tahiti.[8]
Competition
A program led by Airbus has tried to develop a composite passenger aircraft seat without success between 1998 and 2002.[9]
Zodiac Aerospace, a world leader in aircraft seat, has unveiled in 2014 a full composite seat below the threshold of 4 kg (8.8 lbs) in partnership with Hexcel.[10] This seat has not yet been certified.[2]
