FIT Awards
The FIT Awards is an award ceremony organised by Sport360 that provides a stage for members of the fitness industry in the country.[1] It consists of a cocktail reception, a 3 course gourmet meal with beverages, live entertainment and an after-party.
In 2014 the inaugural ceremony took place at the Godolphin Ballroom in Jumeirah Emirates Towers, seeing 185 entrants to 14 categories with 88 contestants[2] entering the final stages of judging. In the public voting category there were 23,000 public votes and a total of 375[3] people attended the event.
The aim of the award ceremony was to reward the members of the fitness community for their service to the people of the United Arab Emirates. Due to the problem with health related issues in the region, namely obesity and type 2 diabetes, the ceremony was endorsed by the relevant government body to draw awareness to the importance of fitness.
Judging process
The judging panel is managed and audited by Deloitte & Touché (Middle East), composed of key industry leaders from their relevant categories. It uses the following format:
- Round 1
- Entries are judged on a standalone basis without comparison to other entries in a category
- Each entry reviewed by 14 judges
- Round 2
- Finalists are judged against others in their category
- Each entry reviewed by 14 judges
- Fitness Event of the Year was decided by a public vote
- 2014 public vote count was 23,000[3]
