Francisco López de Osornio (c.1630-1700s) was a Spanish military leader and landowner during the Viceroyalty of Peru.

Biography

Francisco López de Osornio was born in Andalucia, son of Francisco de Osornio and Catalina López Moreno. He arrived at the Río de la Plata circa of 1678, from Spain. Francisco López married July 21, 1679 in Buenos Aires to Tomasa Merlo de la Mota criolla,[1] having four children Francisco, Ramón, Agustina, and Juan.[2]

Francisco López de Osornio, was part of the militias who fought against Indians. In 1697 served as Alférez in the Ejército de Lanzas (urban militia). Then was promoted to Captain of infantry.

Francisco López received land grants and founded one of the most important families in the Rio de la Plata.[3] He was the maternal great great grandfather of Juan Manuel de Rosas.[4]
