Frosch (or “Frog” in German) is a brand of Werner & Mertz, the German developer of professional and household cleaning supplies,[1] and launched its products in the United States in 2015.[2] The company specializes in environmentally sustainable home cleaning products and the brand’s sales have doubled over the last decade as consumer interest in earth-friendly products has grown.[3]
History
The Frosch brand was launched in 1986 by Werner & Mertz with the intention of offering environmentally friendly cleaning products that were able to compete with traditional cleaning brands. Frosch entered the United States market in 2015.[4]
Products
Thirteen Frosch products are available in the US, including cleaning sprays, dishwashing liquid, and universal cleaners.[5] In 2016, The CEO of Werner & Mertz, Benedict Renauld, appeared on the French television series On N’est Pas Des Pigeons to advocate for Frosch’s environmentally sustainable products.[6]
Environment
Frosch production takes place under the EMAS scheme of the European Union, a voluntary scheme with strict, company-wide environmental requirements. All Frosch products are plant-based and made without animal testing.[7] Frosch packaging is 100% recycled plastic and the company works with a network of partners, including the Naturschutzbund Deutschland, to harness new recycling technologies.[8] Frosch has spent over 14 million Euros in developing ecologically sustainable techniques for its products over the years and, recently, Frosch and its parent company began a lobbying effort to pass a sustainable recyclables act in Europe to set new standards in the industry.[9]
Press and awards
Frosch has been voted Germany’s Most Trusted Brand by Reader’s Digest for 15 years running.[10] In 2015, the company received the Cradle to Cradle Product Innovator Award for their significant efforts in sustainability and is the first European household cleaners company to win the Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold for their Citrus Shower & Bath Cleaner.[11]
