Future house is an electronic dance music genre that emerged in the 2010s, described as a fusion between deep house and EDM.[1][2]
According to French producer Tchami, the genre was first coined by himself circa 2013 as simply a tag for his SoundCloud releases, but that fans and the media later began to adapt the term in an earnest sense, as his "music was specific and leading to build a bridge between house and EDM".[3]
Oliver Heldens' international chart successes "Gecko (Overdrive)" and "Last All Night (Koala)" brought the genre to wider mainstream recognition in 2014, leading to minor feuds between him and Tchami on social media.[4] Artists such as Don Diablo, Kerri Chandler, Martin Solveig, Mesto and Mike Williams and even Liam Payne of One Direction have since incorporated the sound into their work, leading some commentators to observe the commercialisation of the style.[3]
Characteristics
Future house is a subgenre of house music. Songs within the genre are normally characterized by a muted melody with a metallic, elastic[5] sounding drop and frequency modulated basslines.[3]
