Gabriel Sabattier
Camille Ange Gabriel Sabattier (1892–1966) was a French general during World War II. The highest rank he attained was lieutenant-general.[1]
Major-General Sabattier was stationed in Indochina as the commander of the Tonkin Division when, on 9 March 1945, the Japanese staged a coup d'état and overthrew the French colonial government. Sabattier with about 2000 soldiers managed to beat a retreat into Nationalist China. There he was the highest-ranking military representative of the Provisional Government of the French Republic for three months.[2]
Sabattier wrote a memoire, Le destin de l'Indocine: souvenirs et documents, 1941–1951, that was published at Paris in 1952.
