Gerard Louis Goettel

Gerard Louis Goettel (August 5, 1928 – December 19, 2011) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.[1] He was born in New York City, New York. Goettel received a B.A. from Duke University in 1950 and a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1955. He acted as a U.S. Magistrate for the court from 1971 to 1976. He was nominated to the court by Gerald Ford on March 2, 1976, to a seat vacated by Arnold Bauman, confirmed by the United States Senate on March 26, 1976, and received his commission on March 30, 1976. He assumed senior status on August 5, 1993. He later served as a visiting judge for the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut for eleven years. He died in Danbury, Connecticut in 2011.
