HOGO Worldwide Trading Company (Persian: شرکت تجاری بین المللی هوگو ) is a trading and distribution company for petroleum products with headquarters in Tabriz with branches in Kuala Lumpur and Erbil. The company has close relation with Behran Oil Company. The article explores HOGO Company international strategy rationale and construct due to its uniqueness. History and development

Founders of HOGO Company started as a major distributor of different engine oil brands in northwest of Iran 25 years ago. Over the years the company business relation with Behran Oil Company was strongly deepened and it could extend its business to other cities of Iran such as Tehran, Tabriz, Karaj and Mianeh, which resulted in establishment of a specialized firm under the name of HOGO Worldwide Trading Company, HOGO started its professional activities since 2000 and it has been able to grow very fast by modern methods of business administrations. HOGO Company opened up branches and sub-branches in different parts of the world such as Malaysia, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Iraq and due to its outstanding performance Behran selected and trusted HOGO to be its sole representative in Southeast Asia. The main activities of the company involve petroleum related products including but not limited to Engine Oils, Industrial Oils, Process Oils, Greases, Base Oil and Bitumen.[1]

Early Internationalization Efforts

The company very first effort to enter international arena was constrained to simple export to Afghanistan, which followed by entering Iraqi market. HOGO coordinated operations in Iraq through its Erbil office.However due to deteriorating security situation in afghanistan and more recently in Iraq despite its initial success the company was forced to cease its operations in both countries.[2][3][4]

International Market Development

In the recent years there have been a rise of multinationals from emerging countries and many new small firms are increasingly born global , building international relationships right from the start. HOGO company also pursued a similar path and chose to develop its market by operating outside its home market particularly in Malaysia despite the company initial unfortunate setbacks.
