Hedieh Tehrani [3] (Persian: هديه تهرانی, born 25 June 1972 in Tehran, Iran) is a Iranian actress.[4] She is most noted for willingness to play mysterious, stony-faced and cold-hearted women. She began her acting career with Masoud Kimiai's Soltan (1996). For her appearance in Ghermez (1998) she received the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress from the 17th Fajr International Film Festival.[5]
Hediyeh Tehrani received the second Crystal Simorgh of her career from the 24th Fajr International Film Festival, for Fireworks Wednesday. In 2006 she appeared in Bahman Ghobadi's Niwemang. The film received the Gold Shell of the 54th San Sebastián International Film Festival.[6]
Personal Life
The actress was arrested in 2016, in Tehran’s central Lala Garden for campaigning for Animal Rights, due to the gathering not being authorized by the government. The protest was organized after several Iranian municipalities killed a large number of street dogs by shooting or burning the animals to death. The arrest has been condemned as another attack of Iran against free speech.[7][8]
Early career
Mohammad Reza Sharifinia and Azita Hajian were the first ones to propose her a role for The Day of Incident. She auditioned for acting in Rooz-e Vaghe'e (aka The Day of Incident) but refused to cooperate and the role went to Ladan Mostofi.[9] Before acting in Sultan, she refused to play a part in Leila directed by Iranian director Dariush Mehrjui. Kianoush Ayari, then proposed her for acting in his movie, Boodan ya Naboodan and again she refused to play. Masoud Kimiayi was the first director who succeeded to have her playing in his film Sultan.[10]

- ↑ Hedyeh, meaning Gift, is also transliterated as Hadyeh, Hadiyeh and Hediyeh. Although some pronounce Hedyeh (note the e instead of a), the latter pronunciation is incorrect in Persian, as it is Arabic. Hedyeh should be pronounced as Hed'yeh.
