Harrison Millard

Harrison Millard (November 27, 1830 September 10 1895)[1] was an American composer who wrote the music to the Christian hymn "Abide with Me, 'Tis Eventide"—the words of which are by Lutheran evangelist Martin Lowrie Hofford (1825–1888).[2]

Millard was born in Boston and taught music in New York City. He served in the Union forces in the American Civil War and was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga.

Among other works by Millard was a four-act opera entitled Deborah.
