Heartland Messenger

The Heartland Messenger is a monthly watchdog newspaper written by and for the people of Douglas, Sarpy, and Cass counties in the U.S. state of Nebraska, and Pottawattamie county in Iowa. Publishers Ryan DeHarty and Mike DeLost created the Heartland Messenger as an alternative to existing newspapers. The Heartland Messenger had its first publication in January 2007 with a circulation of 10,000. It reaches 4 counties in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa which includes the cities of Omaha, Bellevue, Council Bluffs, and surrounding towns. Its purpose it to make the reader aware of issues that are of concern to many taxpaying citizens. It also offers finance and business columns, a senior citizen section, up-and-coming sport personalities, and other items of interest. The Heartland Messenger also publishes stories written and submitted by readers.
