Herbert Duffus

Sir Herbert George Holwell Duffus (30 August 1908 – 22 October 2002[1]) was a Jamaican Chief Justice and acting Governor-General.

He was born in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica, the son of William Alexander Duffus, JP, and educated at Cornwall College, Jamaica.

He served as Resident Magistrate, Jamaica from 1946 to 1958, a Puisne Judge from 1958 to 1962, a Judge of Appeal from 1962 to 1964 and President of the Court of Appeal from 1964 to 1967. He was then appointed Chief Justice of Jamaica in 1968, serving in that capacity until 1973. He was acting Governor-General of Jamaica from 2 March to 27 June 1973.

He was knighted in 1966. He married Elsie Mary Hollinsed, but had no children.
