List of lakes by altitude

This is a list of the highest lakes in the world.[1] It aims to include the highest lakes[lower-alpha 1] and pools[lower-alpha 2] in the world. Some regions are still poorly described and the list is likely to be both incomplete and not completely accurate. The elevations are mostly from Google Earth, unless a direct measurement by climbers has been made. The dimensions (length and width) may vary throughout a year and between years. Most lakes are nameless - they are tentatively named after nearby mountain or a geographical feature (e.g. a glacier).
