Hogansville Hummingbird Festival

The Hogansville Hummingbird Festival of is an annual arts and crafts festival held every year in Hogansville, Georgia since 1998, in the third week of October. This festival ("combining great local artisans with old time fun") highlights the historic downtown of Hogansville, which was established in the early 19th century and incorporated as a town in 1870.[1]

Brief history

The Hummingbird Festival was established in 1998 by Glenda Gordon of the Grand Hotel and Jackie Byars of Van Byars Auctions and was underwritten by John Hardy Jones, a local developer and property owner. Together with the hard work of many local helpers and supporters, they made the Hummingbird Festival a reality. The Festival has grown from a couple dozen vendors in the beginning to approximately two hundred in 2007. Attendance has grown as well, from around 1,000 in 1998 to over 13,000 festival-goers in 2006. These Festivals have generated over $130,000, which has been used as matching funds for grants for the City totaling $1.2 million. These grants have been used for the renovation of the Royal Theater and other city, park, and downtown improvements.[2]
