Christopher Dooley, Jr. (born March 7, 1989) better known by his stage name Hurricane Chris, who is an American rapper from Shreveport, Louisiana. He was well known for the single, "A Bay Bay", along with others such as "The Hand Clap" featuring Big Poppa of The Ratchet City, "Playas Rock" featuring Boxie, "Halle Berry (She's Fine)" featuring Superstarr, and "Headboard" featuring Mario and Plies. He is also known for putting out two albums by far – 51/50 Ratchet (2007) and Unleashed (2009) – while he was still being signed to Polo Grounds Music and J Records.
Early life
Christopher Dooley, Jr. was born on March 7, 1989, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He attended Huntington High School, which led him to decided to dropped out of high school to pursue his music career.
Career
2007–09: 51/50 Ratchet and Unleashed
On May 28, 2007, Chris released his debut single for his new project, called "A Bay Bay". The song was produced by Phunk Dawg.
On August 8, 2007, Chris released the album's second single, called "The Hand Clap". Phunk Dawg also produced this track.
On August 17, 2007, Chris released his debut mixtape, called Louisi-Animal. The mixtape includes a remix to "A Bay Bay", which features guest verses from The Game, Lil Boosie, E-40, Baby, Angie Locc (whose a member of the "The Lava House" group) and Jadakiss.
On October 23, 2007, Chris released his debut album 51/50 Ratchet, which debuted at number 24 on the US Billboard 200; and sold 26,000 copies in the first week.
On March 3, 2009, Chris released his first single for his second album, called "Halle Berry (She's Fine)". The song features guest vocals from fellow local rapper Superstarr, who also produced this track, alongside Play-N-Skillz and Q Smith.
On September 8, 2009, Chris released the second single for Unleashed, called "Headboard". The song features guest vocals from American R&B singer Mario and a American rapper Plies, with the production that was provided by The Inkredibles.
On December 21, 2009, Chris released his second album Unleashed, which did not charted internationally. However, it did peak at number 46 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and number 20 on the US Top Rap Albums charts, respectively.
2010: Departure from Polo Grounds
In 2010, Chris left or was dropped from Polo Grounds Music.
2010–present: His independent music
Despite leaving or being dropped from the record label, he began pursing as the independent hip hop artist by releasing some of his independent mixtapes.
On March 12, 2012, Chris released his first track from his next mixtape, called "Bend It Over". On May 25, 2012, Chris did a show before being interviewed by AllHipHop to revealed that the title for his third album would be called Return of the Hurricane. On January 2, 2013, Chris released his mixtape, called Caniac.[1][2]
On January 11, 2014, Chris released a single, called "Ratchet". The song was produced by DJ Mustard. On January 16, 2014, the single was re-released on the iTunes. On May 11, 2014, Chris released a remix to "Ratchet", featuring a guest verse from an Baton Rouge-native rapper Boosie Badazz.[3]
On August 21, 2015, Chris announced that the title to his new mixtape would be called Hurricane Season, and it would be released sometime in 2015. He also revealed that he would be releasing his first single from Hurricane Season, called "Sections" featuring Ty Dolla $ign. The song also was produced by with DJ Mustard.[4] On September 4, 2015, Chris released his mixtape, Hurricane Season. The mixtape features the production by Zaytoven, HitMaka!, Drumma Boy and DubMagic Roe, among others.
Personal life
In an interview with The Advocate's Samantha Morgan, Chris spoke about how he came with the name "Hurricane", saying that it came from his ability to rap fast and twist words, and the way he came up with these lyrics "like a hurricane that just blown through".
