The Hutt Valley Lakers were a New Zealand professional basketball team based in Hutt Valley, Wellington that competed in the National Basketball League (NBL) during the 1990s. After winning the 1989 Conference Basketball League (CBL) title, the Lakers were promoted to the NBL and went on to win two championships in 1991 and 1993[1] before leaving the league in 1996.
Hutt Valley later returned to the Conference Basketball League and finished runners-up in 2003,[2] 2004[3] and 2005. They went on to win the 2010 tournament with a 111–95 win over Porirua in the Grand Final. Star forward Leon Henry earned Most Valuable Player honours playing alongside fellow Wellington Saints teammates Brendon Polyblank and Damien Ekenasio.[4]
