Hyperoptic is a fibre-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) installing and maintaining its own dedicated network, based in West London. Hyperoptic is the first company in the UK[2] to claim to deploy gigabit services to residents offering both broadband and phone services.

Hyperoptic began rolling out its services in September 2011 to large residential properties throughout London. Prices Court, a 133-unit development in Wandsworth, was the first residential development in the UK to receive 1Gig internet connection. In October 2012, Hyperoptic announced that 10,000 homes had been passed across 12 London Boroughs; Barnet, Croydon, Greenwich, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth and Westminster.

History

Founded in 2011 by Boris Ivanovic (Chairman) and Dana Tobak (Managing Director), Hyperoptic works with freeholders, developers, property managers and residents to bring its gigabit fibre services to residential and business developments. Hyperoptic received a £50 million investment in May 2013 from Quantum Strategic Partners Ltd, a private investment vehicle managed by Soros Fund Management.

In July 2012, Hyperoptic received recognition from the Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA) and awarded winner of the category of Best New ISP. In October 2012, Hyperoptic was awarded Best Urban Network Enterprise at the 2012 NextGen Challenge Awards. In January 2013 Hyperoptic was named Most Innovative Provider 2013 by Broadband Genie.[3]

During 2013, Hyperoptic announced expansion plans to other UK cities; Reading, Cardiff and Bristol.[4][5] In July, Hyperoptic received the accolade Best Superfast Broadband provider from the Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA).[6]

On May 28, 2014, it was confirmed that Hyperoptic's services would be extending to Leeds, Liverpool, and Manchester[7] and in October 2014, Hyperoptic announced it was to bring gigabit service to Glasgow, Newcastle, Sheffield, Birmingham and Nottingham.[8] The company also announced it was soon to reach 75,000 homes across the UK.[9] In the same year, Hyperoptic was awarded Best Superfast Broadband provider for the second year and Best Use of Digital by ISPA.[10]

By early 2015, Hyperoptic announced its footprint had reached in excess of 100,000 units, across 1,000 sites.[11] A re-brand followed in March with the introduction of a new website.[12] By the end of March, Hyperoptic officially launched its business services[13] In July 2015, Hyperoptic was recognised by ISPA, receiving accolades for Best Superfast Broadband (for the third consecutive year), Best Use of Digital (for the second consecutive year) and Best Consumer Fixed Broadband.[14] On July 6, 2015, Hyperoptic announced "no contract" options were now available for all services.[15]
