I’m Gonna Sing ‘Til The Spirit Move In My Heart

“I’m Gonna Sing ‘Til The Spirit Moves In my Heart” is a spiritual written by Moses Hogan.[1] This piece can be characterized by the rhythmic layering between vocal sections, which creates complexity and texture. Starting with a tenor voicing, the choir comes in intensely with “Sing, Oh my Jesus.”  Expect a strong bass line that really highlights the depths of the male voice, while bringing the central theme to the forefront of the piece.  Listen to the musical phrasing after the tenors sing “Can’t you feel the spirit”.  Every section has a moving vocal part that blends very well while it test the limits of how much one can sing on a single breath.  This song is balanced and uplifting.
