Samanta started his career in the 1950s, by making entertainment-driven films and thrillers, like Inspector (1956) and Howrah Bridge (1958). Insaan Jaag Utha was his attempt to shift genre to social themes. However after the film didn't do well at box office, he shifted back to making entertainment-oriented films for another decade, before attempting the genre with films like Aradhana (1969), Kati Patang (1970) and Amar Prem (1971).[1]
