Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology is a State Government Engineering institution of Allahabad. It is affiliated to U.P. Technical University, Lucknow, U.P., India. Admissions to the college are based upon the merit of the student in the State Entrance Exam (SEE) conducted by U.P. Technical University, Lucknow, U.P., India. It runs various Bachelor of Technology courses as well as certain Diploma programs. It is one of the oldest and premier engineering institutions in India.

About IERT

The campus of INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND RURAL TECHNOLOGY, Allahabad, UP, India spreads over 26.5 acres (107,000 m²) of land. The Institution has separate hostel and mess facilities for boys and girls including 24 hours generator facility, telephone, and gates security. Alongside, the mess comprises spacious dining halls where descent meals are served to the students. The college owns standards engineering workshops, well equipped with upscale machinery. Its computer lab owns latest computers, software, and app development tools. It has also a sizable library, consisting of accomplished collection of books on engineering and several other subjects. The Institute was the first polytechnic in India to be granted autonomy. I.E.R.T. is now wholly in charge of its syllabus, admission procedure as well as diplomas offered. The Institute offers B.Tech courses in three disciplines - Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Industrial & Production Engineering. The Institute also offers Post Graduate Diploma Courses in Management.

Historical background

In 1955, Civil Engineering School was opened by a society named "Institute of Engineering & Rural Technology". Late Shanker Saran, retired judge Honorable High Court of Allahabad and Late Vishwamitra an advocate were respectively the President and Secretary of the society. This school was self-sustaining its activities. A good number of students were admitted every year. The students were awarded two years' Diploma in Civil Engineering Course by the Board of Engineering College.

In 1962, U.P. Government took over this Institute by constituting a registered society named " Allahabad Engineering Polytechnic, Allahabad. "

The society constituted a Board of Management/Managing Committee consisting of 11 members to manage affairs of the Polytechnic. The state government awarded the status of Grant in Aid to the Institute. The rules and by-laws of the society were accordingly framed and the Director of Technical Education, U.P. became ex officio Secretary of Management Committee.

Reviewing the multifarious activities and the achievements of the Institute in the country and abroad, the U.P. Government changed the name of Allahabad Polytechnic to"Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology (I.E.R.T) " in 1982 and designated the post of "Director" in place of Principal, and the Institute was simultaneously awarded the Academic Autonomy. An Autonomy Committee was constituted and Secretary Technical Education, U.P. became ex officio Chairman of the committee. The Engineering Degree Division of the Institute Of Engineering and Rural Technology, Allahabad was set & the college started offering degree courses in engineering with affiliation from U.P. Technical University, Lucknow (UP),the college is very best in the country in diploma engineering programs. The institute maintains the same position.

Admissions

Admissions for engineering courses are done through the state-level Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam. Admission for diploma, management, post diploma and others are done through entrance exam conducted by college.

Student life

Technovation

Technovation is the annual technical festival of IERT . Technovation is conducted by the student community of IERT to promotes the technical, scientific and entrepreneurial skills in the students. It is conducted in month of April.

Udbhav

Udbhav, is the annual cultural festival of the Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology. It is held for 3 days in last week of October every year, to celebrate the Institute’s Engineering Degree Division Foundation Day. This year it will be held from 10,11,and 12 november 2016.

Robaroo

Robaroo is fresher function organized to welcome the new students, who had just become the part of institution by the batch prior to them. Both the faculty members and the older students of the institute promise the new student for their bright future.

Alumni Meet

Alumni Meet is conducted for reunion of ex-students of the institute and the students who have completed their golden jubilee are special invites and conduct the event in the supervision of Alumni Society.

Annual Sport Meet

This is a week event in which students participate in different sports event conducted by games and sports department.

IERT Programming Group

IERT Programming Group is one of Biggest student's initiate started in 2014 to promote programming in college and prepare students for ACM ICPC an online international level programming contest for college srudents. Different programming contest, classes are organized by the group promote programming spirit in the college. Many national and college level contest are organized monthly.

InterConnect

It maintain and supervise the local network in the college. It was started in 2015 from the joint efforts of teachers and students.

Ranking

The institute has been ranked 7th, Ranking by Buddy4study^[1] and AAA by Careers 360 (Magazine)^[2] Top Engineering Colleges in UPTU.

Co-curricular activities

Besides studies, the institute also encourages the students to participate in various co-curricular activities to ensure their overall personality development. It organizes cultural programs, Shramdan activities, NCC camps, etc. to help the students develop team effort and leadership qualities. It also offers ample facilities for games and sports to enable the students ensure refreshed mind and healthy body.

Laboratories and other facilities

The campus is spread over an area of 26 acres. As the institute was started in 1955 there are many well developed laboratories where tests can be performed from academic to testing. The institute was initially started for Civil Engineering, there are lot of resources for testing in civil along with workshops. The institute provides personal web space for students. It also provides network services for high speed Internet to all the other labs and the academics. It has linux server along with Ubuntu and Windows machines. Laboratories equipped with high-end software like MATLAB and Autocad for use of students.
