The Irish Farmers Journal is a weekly farming newspaper sold in Ireland. It is the best selling farming newspaper in the country selling to over 247,000 readers per week and circulation of 69,050 (ABC Jan-Jun 2015).
The Agricultural Trust
The Irish Farmers Journal is the only agricultural publication that operates as a legal Trust. The Irish Farmers Journal is published by The Agricultural Trust (which is a Company Limited by Guarantee). Its only mandate is to provide the best possible technical support, market information and news to the agricultural sector. The company doesn’t have a share capital. No dividends are paid and the directors don’t receive remuneration for fulfilling their role as directors. All profits are invested in meeting the Trust’s objectives - to enhance the competitiveness of Irish farming and the well-being of those engaged in the sector. The Agricultural Trust is a business focused on agriculture, working in media and knowledge transfer. The mission is to enhance the competitiveness of Irish farming and the wellbeing of those engaged in the sector. There is approximately 90 staff employed by the Agricultural Trust across three national publications – the Irish Farmers Journal incorporating Irish Country Living, Irish Country Magazine and The Irish Field.
Since its establishment in 1948, the Irish Farmers Journal has been working with Irish farmers and the agricultural industry, to encourage and sustain a prosperous farm economy in Ireland. The creation of The Agricultural Trust in 1964 has allowed the paper to develop as the unbiased voice for progress and development on Irish farms. The company structure allows the Irish Farmers Journal the unique opportunity to confirm its commitment to its readers by supporting agricultural development projects each year. Irish Farmers Journal surplus funds are always destined for re-investment into science-based information support for Irish farming. But it is through the weekly message of progressive farming skills, news, and technology, that the ‘bible’ is best known among farming households and agri-business circles. The Irish Farmers Journal 's message has always been that of sourcing the best in farming and related technologies, and helping to mould them to Irish conditions. The challenge is as real today as it was over forty years ago. The benefits for Irish farmers are no less tangible. For an industry and a nation, they are clearly visible. The Irish Farmers Journal continues to provide the focus for open debate on agricultural development as the best source of information for the Irish agricultural industry and the families dependent on it.

The Irish Farmers Journal has a website farmersjournal.ie. Both free and Journal+ content are available online. Free content is free for everyone to view, while Journal+ content requires the reader to register their email address to read 10 Journal+ articles per month or subscribe to read unlimited content. The website had over 230,000 unique users and over 480,000 sessions (website and the Irish Farmers Journal App combined) for the month of January in 2016.
Supplements
A different supplement is included in every edition, along with a Classifieds section. Every year, there is a special edition about the National Ploughing Championships, one of the biggest agricultural events in Europe. It is published in mid-September, to coincide with the beginning of the event. Other supplements include Agri Business, Crops & Spraying and Soils.
Irish Country Living
The "Irish Country Living" supplement covers many topics from gardening to health to education to music. It is edited by Mairead Lavery. Journalists include Aisling Hussey, Mary Phelan, Maria Moynihan and Ciara Leahy.
Other Publications
Irish Dairy Farmer The Irish Dairy Farmer is a special edition magazine published by the Irish Farmers Journal for Irish dairy farmers. It was previously an annual publication published in winter, but in 2015 there was both a summer and winter issue.
Irish Country Magazine Irish Country Magazine, launched nationwide in March 2012, was inspired by the growing readership of the weekly Irish Country Living supplement with the Irish Farmers Journal. The magazine covers fashion, beauty and lifestyle tips and has evolved greatly since its launch to where it is today. In 2015 Irish Country Magazine was awarded Consumer Magazine of Year 2015 at the Magazines Ireland awards. In early 2016, the magazine moved from a bi-monthly publication to a 10 issues per year publication, around that same time it also became the number one women's glossy magazine in Ireland.
The magazine is edited by Jennifer Stevens and journalists include Maria Moynihan (Journalist of the Year 2015 at the Magazines Ireland awards), Klara Heron and Róisín Healy.
