Isli Hidi (born 15 October 1980) is an Albanian professional goalkeeper who played for Nea Salamina in the Cyprus First Division and the Albanian national team.
Club career
He started off his career at his hometown club, Tirana in 1998. After very few appearances, he was loaned out to Bylis Ballsh. After making a huge impact, he returned to Tirana to compete for the number 1 shirt. He signed for the Ukrainian club Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih in August 2007. In 2008, Hidi moved to Alki Larnaca for the remainder of the 2008–09 season. Hidi rejoined Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih on a three-year contract for around one million dollars per season on 3 March 2009. On 6 July 2010 he signed for Dinamo Tirana for 2010 season. In 2011 he signed for Olympiakos Nicosia.
International career
Hidi made his full international debut in a friendly against the Polish national team on 29 May 2005. He was called up to the match by German coach Hans-Peter Briegel who was managing the Albanian national team and was impressed by Hidi's performances in the Albanian Superliga with his club at the time KF Tirana. Hidi was named in the starting eleven on his debut, but things could not have started any worse for the debutant goalkeeper as a Wisla Krakow striker scored for the home country in under a minute of play. Despite conceding very early on, Hidi managed to play well enough for the opposition not to strike in his net for a second time.[1] Hidi's next international game was to be his first on Albanian soil. The match was a friendly against an Azerbaijan side who had gone 14 games without a win. The game took place on 17 August 2005 in a Qemal Stafa Stadium in front of around 7,300 Albanian fans. Hidi was once again in Briegel's starting line up but once again he conceded very early on, this time in under 2 minutes through a Zaur Tagizade goal. However, despite another poor start to an international game, Hidi then helped his side turn the result around and win 2–1 after goals from Alban Bushi and Lorik Cana on either half of the interval.[2]
