Jøssund is a former municipality in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. It is also a village in the present-day municipality of Bjugn. It is located about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) across the fjord from Lysøysundet and about 18 kilometres (11 mi) northeast of Nes. The village of Jøssund is home to the Jøssund church.[1]
History
The municipality of Jøssund was established on 1 January 1896 when it was split off from the municipality of Åfjord. Initially, Jøssund had a population of 1,529. On 1 January 1964, Jøssund was merged into the newly enlarged Bjugn municipality. Prior to the merger, Jøssund had a population of 1,917.[3]
