Jagajeet Shrestha (Nepali: जगजीत श्रेष्ठ) is a Nepali footballer. He plays for Australian second-tier club Hume United FC in National Premier Leagues (Australia) as a midfielder.[3] He was called to Nepali internationals at the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.[4][5]

Club career

Jagajeet Shrestha was born in Bhaktapur, a sub district of Kathmandu in 1993. He soon developed a reputation for his skills and fiery style of play despite his short height. He started his career at Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club scoring 25 goals.

In 2011, VfB Stuttgart agreed to a 1-year deal to train Shrestha.[6]

In 2012, Shrestha moved on to Friends Club, and in 2013 transferred to the Three Star Club.

In June 2014 Shrestha secured a 2-month trial with the Polish football club, Jagiellonia Białystok.[7][8][9][10]

He played for Three Star Club before signing a 18 months contract with Hume United FC. He receives a monthly salary of $1,500 from this club.[3] He scored two goals for Hume United FC in his debut match against Sporting.[11]

International career

Shrestha represented Nepal at the U13, U14, U16, and U19 levels.[12] He has also represented his country at the 2011 SAFF Championship, 2012 Nehru Cup, 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and the 2013 SAFF Championship.[13] He scored his only goal so far in a 5-0 world qualifier match victory against Timor-Leste.[14]

Reputation

Although undoubtedly skilled Jagajeet has a reputation for having a difficult personality. Former coach Krishna Thapa says "To be frank, he is lazy in training but he plays well in matches. The boy has got huge talent but he needs to change his attitude."[12] In one particular match in April 2014 against the Philippines he repeatedly clashed with Simone Rota and was eventually shown a yellow card by the referee for an off the ball incident with Chris Greatwich that could have been a red.[15] In the same fixture in October 2014 he was sent off on 65 minutes after lashing out at Filipino player Daisuke Satō after the latter had brought down Bimal Gharti Magar. Satō was shown a yellow while Jagajeet was shown a direct red card.[16][17][18][19][20]
