James Lawrence Owens (December 30, 1899 – September 27, 1960) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1955 until his death in 1960 sitting with the Social Credit caucus in government.
Political career
Owens ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1955 Alberta general election as a Social Credit candidate in the electoral district of Didsbury. He defeated Coalition candidate Ben Brown by a few hundred votes in a hotly contested two way race to win his first term in office.[2]
Owens ran for a second term and was easily re-elected in the 1959 Alberta general election. He won a big plurality in the three way race over Douglas Munn a candidate under the Progressive Conservative banner and a Liberal candidate.[3]
Owens died of a heart attack on September 28, 1960.[4]
