Jamie Yates (born 24 December 1988) is an English footballer who plays for Matlock Town.
Early life
Yates attended Newfield Secondary School in Norton Lees, Sheffield from 2000 to 2005.
Career
Yates was a regular in the Rotherham United youth team and later in the Millers' reserves, and was given first team squad number 27 on 18 November 2006. After a few appearances on the bench, Jamie was handed his first team debut on 17 March 2007 against Brentford, playing on the right wing.
"Jamie has been knocking on the door for a while now" said manager Mark Robins. "He was outstanding today. He's come in under difficult circumstances and has shown he's going to be a player for the future." Yates also started the following game against Crewe Alexandra, and signed a permanent professional contract with Rotherham on 20 April 2007. Yates came on as a substitute in Rotherham's League Two game against Morecambe on 20 October 2007, scoring two goals. On 26 April 2008, a 45-yard volley was scored by substitute Yates to condemn Mansfield Town to non-League football. He signed a new one-year contract with Rotherham in May 2008.[1]
In January 2009, Yates joined Conference National club Burton Albion initially on a month's loan, which was subsequently extended to the end of the season. He scored his first goal for Burton in a 1–0 win away to Grays Athletic in only his second game for the club, a match which also set a new Conference record of twelve consecutive wins. [2]
At the start of 2009/2010 season he signed for Boston United on a one-month loan deal in a bid to regain match fitness, which then led to Boston United securing the services of Yates in early November until the end of the 2009–10 season. On 1 May 2010, Boston United secured promotion to the Conference North beating Bradford Park Avenue after extra-time in the Playoff Final. On 15 May 2010, Yates signed a new deal with Boston for their 2010–11 campaign in the Conference North in which the Pilgrims reached the play-offs for the second consecutive year finishing 3rd on an impressive 79 points.
In May 2011 he signed with Gainsborough Trinity for a tribunal fee after rejecting a new contract offer from Boston United.
Yates and Gainsborough Trinity went on to reach the 2011/12 play-offs that year, the first time the club has reached the Conference North Play-offs for many years. For Yates however this would be the third consecutive year in a row in which he would take part in a play-off campaign. Manager Steve Housham made Yates captain on 14.04.12 against his former club Boston United in which Trinity ran out worthy 1–2 winners on the day. Yates kept the captaincy and went on to lead out his club in the play-off semi finals vs Halifax Town, a tie which Gainsborough triumphed 2–3 over 2 legs to set up a home tie in the final versus Nuneaton Town. Trinity lost 0–1 on the day to a first half goal and now look set to re build for another season in the Conference North. On 21 May 2012 Jamie signed a new One Year Contract to prolong his stay at the Northolme and into his 2nd season with the club.
The 2012/13 season began rather slowly for Gainsborough Trinity, although an inspired Fa Trophy cup run gave the blues a season to remember, going on to beat Conference Premier teams such as Forest Green, Barrow and Tamworth of whom Yates scored against in a 2–1 victory. They eventually went out 3–4 on aggregate to eventual winners Wrexham at the semi final stage. On 2 February 2013, Jamie Yates scored against his former club Boston United in a 2–2 draw at the Northolme which gaves the blues hope of a play-off place come the end of the season.
