Jan Muhammed A Memon, a medical professional and an educationist par excellence. He was born on 1 May 1949 and obtained primary and secondary schooling in Tando Muhammad Khan, followed by MBBS at then Liaquat Medical College (LMC), with distinction in Surgery. He then pursued FRCS at the Royal College of Surgeons UK, qualifying in first attempt. He returned to Pakistan in 1979 and joined LMC as Assistant Professor of Surgery. He was also awarded Honorary FCPS by the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan in 2003.

Memon was the founder Vice Chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) Pakistan, the first ever public sector medical university in Pakistan. Being a son of the soil, he has recently founded Indus Medical College in the under developed Tando Muhammad Khan district along with a state of the art hospital. He is also overlooking several other public and private social initiatives in rural Sindh.

Memon was also involved with College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) initially as Advisor Academics with additional charge of Registrar CPSP and then Secretary CPSP.

Contributed significantly towards development of medical education and health systems in Pakistan. Numerous achievements over a career spanning more than three decades. During his tenure, LUMHS was ranked as the second best medical university in Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission Pakistan.
