Jerome Sala Ucab (born November 29, 1986) is Filipino singer who was dubbed 'Balladeer Extraordinaire'. He was discovered on the ABS-CBN series Search for a Star in a Million in 2004. Since his 2004 win, Sala became a fixture on variety shows until he became inactive after going back to his province, Bohol.

Early life and career

Jerome Sala was born on November 29, 1986 in Barangay Bacagay, Pilar, Bohol, Philippines, to municipal councilor Jaime Ucab and Ruth Sala. He is the third of four children.

Sala had participated in various competitions in his home province (including barangay, fiesta and municipal singing contests), and also traveled to nearby islands to join competitions.

Sala’s singing was discovered when he was a child. His father encouraged him to become a singer to prove that the family’s singing genes safely passed on to him from his grandfather. According to the people of Pilar, at age five, Sala had proven his father’s theory and won his very first singing trophy. His winning piece was "Usahay", a popular Visayan song. His winning song in the Search for a Star in a Million contest was "One in a Million", a song that he had sung in previous competitions.

He finished his elementary education at Bagacay Elementary School and high school at Virgen del Pilar Academy. He briefly attended college at Bohol Institute of Technology, but he ceased studies there when he joined Search for a Star in a Million.

Sala auditioned for Search for a Star in a Million held in Cebu City. While filling up the form, his entry was “Ucab, Jerome Sala.” It was an honest mistake of the Search for a Star in a Million’s staff as they thought Jerome’s family name was Sala.

Sala was a wild card finalist in the Search for a Star in a Million competition.
