Joan Wulff
Joan Salvato Wulff also known as the First Lady of Fly Fishing, has been casting since she was a school girl in 1937.[1] She was National Casting Champion from 1943-1960 in distance casting against an all-male competition; she made a record cast of 161 feet.[2] After she married Lee Wulff they started the Wulff School of Fly Fishing together and it has been running ever since 1979.[3] The two also started Royal Wulff Products which specializes in selling and making rods, tackle, and lines, along with inventing new products.[4] Joan has written three books on fly fishing, the most known being Fly Casting Techniques. She has been writing columns for Fly Rod and Reel for 22 years.[5] She was inducted into the International Game Fish Association Hall of Fame in 2007.[6] Joan is currently on the advisory staff of the Winston Rod Company[7]
