Joey Somerville (born 15 August 1970 in Dublin) is an Irish football manager, who was last in charge of Kildare County in the League of Ireland. He spent his playing days with Bohemians in the 1990s.

Playing career

Somerville played for Bohemians amongst others during his playing career. He made his competitive Bohs debut as substitute in the Leinster Senior Cup tie against Glenmore Celtic in August 1990.[1] Despite this, he struggled to make the first team during his time at Dalymount Park.

Managerial career

After spending some time coaching in the schoolboy section, Somerville took over the senior team at Cherry Orchard in 2006 and led them to a Leinster Senior League Premier Division title in his first season.

Joey was appointed manager of Kildare County in 2009. After struggling to turn the club's fortunes around, and amidst financial turmoil at the club, Joey resigned before the final game of the same season. The team had to play their final game of the season without a Kildare County FC jersey, as Sommerville with-held the team kit. After the 2009 season, Kildare County FC disbanded.[2] Kildare County had just 1 point from their first 8 matches of the season when Joey took over and had already conceded 31 goals and had been knocked out of the FAI Cup. Joey took charge of training for the first time on the night of 27 April.

” I am delighted to be given the chance by Kildare County and I am sure that I will be able to turn things araound. There are a number of good quality players in the squad and maybe with one or two others they should be able to fight their way out of the relegation position. I am a winner and I will do everything in my power to make sure that Kildare County can begin to climb up the League ” said Joey on his first appointment as a L.O.I. manager.

Joey will bring Keith O'Halloran with him. “I had him with me at Cherry Orchard and we work well together” he said.
