Early years

Herbert attended Sheldon High School in Eugene, Oregon. He played football, baseball and basketball in high school. As a senior he passed for 3,130 yards and 37 touchdowns with 543 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.[1] He committed to the University of Oregon to play college football.[2]

College career

2016 season

Herbert entered his true freshman season at Oregon in 2016 as the backup to Dakota Prukop.[3] He made his first career start against the Washington Huskies, replacing a benched Prukop.[4][5] During the game he completed 21 of 34 passes for 179 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.[6][7] Three weeks later against the visiting Arizona State Sundevils, Herbert completed 31 of 42 passes for 489 yards and four touchdowns. The 489 yards matched the Oregon single game record set by Bill Musgrave against BYU in 1989.
