Kanet

The KanetThakur are Hindu caste found in the state of Himachal Pradesh in North India.[1]

History and origin

The word Kanet is said to be derived from the Sanskrit word kunit, which means indifference to caste rules, and the community is said to be descended from Rajput. However, classified shudra or low casts by the Britishers.

Distribution

The Kanet are found throughout eastern Himachal Pradesh, occupying the whole of Suket, Kullu, Mandi and Sirmur and Shimla Solan Distt Bilaspur Distt. except Kangra & Hamirpur.
