Katie Amess

Katherine "Katie" Louise Diana Amess (born 19 July in Basildon, Essex[1]) is an English actress and model. She is the eldest daughter of Sir David Amess. She is known as the host of British TV commercials and from several film and TV roles.[2]

Early life

The second of five children and the daughter of Conservative MP Sir David Amess,[3] Amess grew up in Basildon until the age of 11 when she moved to the nearby town of Southend-on-Sea.

She attended St Anne Line Primary School in Basildon before going to the Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School and finally St Bernard's High School in Westcliff–on–Sea. Helen Mirren was a previous student at the school and Katie was awarded the Helen Mirren Award for acting in 2001. She went on to study Drama at Queen Mary, University of London and The Central School of Speech and Drama where former students include Laurence Olivier, Vanessa Redgrave and Judi Dench.

Acting

In 2011 Katie moved to Los Angeles where she was cast as Lulu in William Friedkin's version of the Harold Pinter play 'The Birthday Party' at The Geffen Playhouse alongside Tim Roth, Steven Berkoff, David O'Hara, Frances Barber and Nick Ullett [4] The play was famously halted during tech week and is yet to be remounted. [5] She went on to play Ulcie in the closing week of Rolin Jones' 'These Paper Bullets' at the same theater in 2015. [6]

Katie played Brenda Dixon in Ray Cooney's Cash on Delivery alongside Ray himself in December 2015. The performance got rave reviews "The ensemble [..] under Cooney's keen direction are all great [...] Katie Amess as Norman's innocent, confused fiancee Brenda. There is not a flaw, not a missed cue. No one stands above anyone else. In 2004 Katie won the "Helen Mirren Award" for acting achievements. She has appeared in a host of TV commercials including Nintendo, Just Dance 3 & 4, Wen Haircare, Premier Inn and News of the World. She appeared as Paris Hilton in two national commercials. She has appeared on various different TV shows in the UK including Funny Cuts on E4 and Dream Team.

She was also in consideration for a role on The Brit smash hit comedy The Inbetweeners.[9] In 2016 Katie appeared alongside Chris Evans (actor) and Emily VanCamp in Captain America: Civil War [10]

Katie made global headlines in 2013 when she signed on to play a lead in the musical parody 'Miserable Lesbians' in New York and Edinburgh.[11] The show was adapted from the Oscar-winning 'Les Misérables' and attracted global attention due to the issues of gay marriage and gender equality it raised. Katie reprised her role of Courgette (aka Cosette) from an earlier film version of 'Miserable Lesbians' for the 'Toscars' at the famous Grauman's Theater which saw the film sweep the boards, winning 8 out of 10 awards presented by Eric Roberts.[12] The show was a sell out in Hollywood and New York and Katie was labeled as part of an "uber talented cast".[13]

Modelling

Amess competed in several British beauty pageants [14] and won the title of Miss Essex in 2008 for the Miss Earth 2008 contest.[15][16] In the same year she also became a finalist for the Miss England competition.[17]

Charity work

She is a keen charity activist and previously worked for the British housing charity Shelter.
