Kia'i dynasty

Kia'i, Kia, Amīr Kīāʾī, or Kar Kia dynasty (Persian: کیاییان) was a dynasty which ruled over Tabaristan (Mazandaran and its province Gilan) from 1389 to 1592. They claimed Sasanian ancestry. By the Shia tradition Shahrbanu (Shahrbānū Sasaniad or Shehr Bano) (Persian: شهربانو) (Meaning: "Lady of the Land"), is a personage described to have been one of the daughters of Yazdegerd III,[1] the last Emperor of the Sassanid dynasty of Persia/Iran. She was said to be the mother of Imam Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin and the daughter of the last Sasanian king.[2] Other names by which she has been referred to include: Shaharbānawayh,[3] Shahzanān,[4] Salāma,[5] Salāfa,[6] Ghazāla,[7] Salama,[8] and Sādira.[9]

The Kia's helped shah Ismail I establish the Safavid Empire and Kia's later became a vassal state of the Safavid Empire.[10] The Safavid king, Abbas I put an end to the Kia dynasty by dispatching its Army to Gilan in 1592.
