Kiichirō Furukawa (古川 麒一郎 Furukawa Kiichirō; also Hurukawa Kiitiro, 22 July 1929 – 29 June 2016)[1][4] was a Japanese astronomer and discoverer of minor planets at the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory.[5] Furukawa was also associated with Nagoya University Department of Astrophysics.[6]
The asteroid 3425 Hurukawa, a main-belt asteroid of the Eos family, was named in his honor.[5] Naming citation was published on 16 December 1986 (M.P.C. 11443).[7]
Discoveries
Furukawa was a prolific discoverer of asteroids, credited by the Minor Planet Center under the name K. Hurukawa with a total of 92 co-discovered numbered minor planets, all of them in collaboration with astronomer Hiroki Kosai.[3]
