Kim Thúy
Kim Thúy, CQ (born 1968 in Saigon, Vietnam)[1] is a Vietnamese-born Canadian writer, whose debut novel Ru won the Governor General's Award for French language fiction at the 2010 Governor General's Awards.[2]
Early life
Thúy spent her early childhood in Vietnam before fleeing with her parents as boat people[1] and settling in the Montreal suburb of Longueuil.[3] She has degrees in law, linguistics and translation from the Université de Montréal.[1]
Work
Thúys debut novel Ru won the Governor General's Award for French language fiction at the 2010 Governor General's Awards.[4] An English edition, translated by Sheila Fischman,[5] was published in 2012. The novel was also shortlisted nominee for the 2012 Scotiabank Giller Prize[6] and the 2013 Amazon.ca First Novel Award. The novel won the 2015 edition of Canada Reads,[7]
In 2016, Thúy published her third novel, Vi.
