Kirkhamgate

Kirkhamgate is a village, north-west of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. It originated as a hamlet in the Alverthorpe township in the parish of Wakefield in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
Geography
Kirkhamgate is situated on rising ground at a junction on the Wakefield to Batley road to the east of the M1 motorway. It is primarily a residential village surrounded by farmland that is part of the Rhubarb Triangle.
Scarecrow Festival
Kirkhamgate holds an annual scarecrow festival in September. The event draws people from miles around to view exhibits in villagers front gardens. The event raises money for local community groups and good causes. The 2013 festival with a theme of Bands and Musical Artists, took place in September and was a huge success with 53 entries and record visitor numbers, raising a record amount of money. This was followed up with an even bigger festival in 2014 with a theme of Films. The village is looking forward to its 6th annual festival in September 2015 with "Best of British" being the theme.[1]
Kirkhamgate Crows Cycling
Kirkhamgate Crows were formed in 2014 and have become one of Wakefield leading amateur cycling groups. "Gotta Love Cycling" is the phrase the Crows have adopted and all members are enthused by cycling as a fun pastime that helps you keep fit, but are not "one of those serious cycling clubs". The aim of the Crows is to get people of all abilities interested in cycling and to enjoy it. Details of the Crows can be found on their Facebook page and new members are always welcome.
