History

Rosen Heights Independent School District was incorporated by an election held May 6, 1916. There were sixteen votes cast for incorporation and one vote against incorporation. Rosen Heights Independent School was founded in 1923 with 16 pupils in a vacant store donated by a Mr. Hodgkins. In 1936 land was acquired and an architect was chosen to build a school building that would house the entire school. The location of this building was 6713 Charbonneau Road in Lake Worth. The district's band was added in 1942. Sadly, the original Lake Worth school building burned down in a fire. In the fall of 1943, school began in the yet unfinished new school building. The first reference to the building as Lake Worth School was on May 8, 1940, after previously being known as Rosen Heights Independent School District. O.R. Childress was named superintendent on August 10, 1940. On January 29, 1941, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, J.R. Foster, was authorized to request the Texas State Legislature in Austin asking for aid in getting additional room and equipment to care for the contemplated growth of the school due to the building of the bomber plant in the Lake Worth vicinity. During World War II, on May 4–7, 1942, it was decided that the school was to be closed on sugar rationing days for the purpose of registering families. On January 15, 1943, the Board voted to give the go-ahead for a Victory Garden on school grounds to help the war effort. An effort was made by the City of Fort Worth to annex into its city limits any part of the Rosen Heights Independent School District in 1946, but was resisted by the school board. On February 7, 1947, O.C. Morton was named principal of Lake Worth High School for the 1946-47 school year. On the 15th of February the following year, a motion was made that a bond be organized under the direction of Andrew A. Davis. The Board petitioned Carswell Air Force Base on August 27, 1948 to reroute their flight plans as to not fly over the Lake Worth school building. The same day a year later, a third attempt to pass a bond was initiated in the Board for $50,000 to build new classrooms. The plan was defeated, with a vote of 170 for the plan, and 183 against the plan. Another letter of protest over the route of planes flying from Carswell was sent to congressmen and the Head of the War Department.
