Lambert High School is a public secondary school located outside the limits of Suwanee, Georgia, in Forsyth County, Georgia, a suburb northeast of Atlanta. It is the newest of five high schools in the Forsyth County School District.[1] The school is a state-of-the-art facility, with an annual enrollment of about 2,500 students. Most students who attend Lambert reside in southern Forsyth County, an affluent area located near the border of Johns Creek. The students are drawn from Riverwatch Middle and South Forsyth Middle school. The school was built to alleviate over-crowding at South Forsyth High School, which is located 3.8 miles away, off Peachtree Parkway.
History
Lambert High School is named after Clarence Lambert.[2] He was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He received degrees in vocational agriculture from University of Georgia and a master's degree in school administration from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University. He served as the first principal of Forsyth County High School, which is now called Forsyth Central High School. Lambert also worked at the Georgia Department of Education as a program coordinator, as Assistant Superintendent in charge of facilities at Forsyth County Schools, and as Interim Superintendent of Forsyth County Schools.[3]
An addition is currently being constructed by Charles Beall Constitution Company, Inc.
Student data
The students are drawn from Riverwatch Middle School and South Forsyth Middle School.[4]
Academic competitions
In 2011, Rocketry Team 2 won runner-up in the national Team America Rocketry Challenge with an overall score of 23.[5]
Athletics
Lambert competes in Region 6 AAAAAA,[6] in all sports except for lacrosse, where it competes in Area 3 AAAAAA.[7] Sports teams at Lambert include competitive cheerleading, cross country, football, softball, volleyball, boys' basketball, girls' basketball, swimming, diving, wrestling, baseball, golf, boys' lacrosse, girls' lacrosse, boys' soccer, girls' soccer, boys' tennis, girls' tennis, track and field, and girls' gymnastics.[8] The school is a member of the Georgia High School Association. It has a live mascot named Louie the Longhorn.[2] Lambert's regional rivals are South Forsyth High School, North Forsyth High School, West Forsyth High School and Johns Creek High School (the last being located in nearby Fulton County).
In 2010 the boys' varsity lacrosse team had a record of 18-2, losing to Lovett High School in the State Semifinals. The boys' JV lacrosse team went undefeated, being the first LHS athletic team to do so.
In 2011, the Lambert boys' varsity lacrosse team won the class 4A state championship, defeating Pope High School 14-7. By doing so, they became the first Lambert athletics team to win a state title.[9]
In 2012, both the boys' varsity soccer[10] and lacrosse teams won state championships.
In addition, the wrestling team finished third in the State Tournament in 2012 with two state finalists and two state placers. Also, the team finished 18th in the state in 2013 with one placer and one finalist.
The boys' lacrosse team was the GHSA Class AAAAAA State Runner-up in 2013 and 2014, and ended the 2015 season ranked #3 in the state.[11] In 2016, the boys' lacrosse team won the state championship over Lassiter High, to cap off an undefeated season (21-0).[12]
