Le Chasseur français (meaning The French Hunter in English)[1] is a monthly magazine on hunting and nature published in France.

History and profile

Le Chasseur français was started in 1885.[2][3] The founding company of the magazine was ManuFrance,[4] which went bankrupt in the 1980s.[5] The company was founded by Étienne Mimard and Pierre Blachon in St Etienne and had activities in various business fields.[6]

In 1990 Medianature, a joint company formed by Bayard SA and Emap, acquired the magazine.[7] In 2001 Emap bought the shares of Bayard AS in Medianature, becoming the owner of the magazine.[8][9] Mondadori is also owner of the magazine, which acquired shares of it in June 2001.[4] In June 2006 the company became the whole owner of the magazine.[10]

Le Chasseur français is published by Mondadori/Emap France on a monthly basis.[3][11] The magazine offers articles about nature-related hobbies such as fishing, gardening, hunting, mushroom gathering and farm animal husbandry.[3] It supports for positivism, work and production.[1] Antoine Berton is the editor of the monthly.[3]

Circulation

The circulation of Le Chasseur français was about 544,000 copies during the first half of 2001[8] and 535,000 copies in 2001.[12] It was one of the 20 best-selling magazines in France in 2005[13] with a circulation of 494,514 copies.[14] The magazine had a circulation of 384,057 copies in 2010.[11] In 2012 its circulation was 303,380 copies.[3]
